Het Rijk van de Keizer started in 1996 in the ‘Jordaan’ district (famous city neighborhood in Amsterdam). Owner John Hannema organized evenings, out of a squatted house, where he combined food and theatrical elements. Soon he became known as a culinary artist.
Het Rijk van de Keizer catered parties, organized dinners on every Sunday of the week and baked magnificent cakes for local cafes.
Three years later this ‘Jordaan’ location turned out to be a bit too small. Het Rijk needed more space for the increasingly more extensive projects. John found the perfect place on artist site 1800 ROEDEN in the Amsterdam grasslands. Het Rijk became a private restaurant and also a location for special parties, dinners, weddings, a wide range of company meetings and special occasions.
Nowadays het Rijk van de Keizer is a meeting-, party- and wedding location with quite a significant capacity; dinners up to 200 persons and cooking workshops for 12 to 50 participants. For bigger gatherings we have a capacity of a maximum of 300 (inside) and/or 400 people (inside and outside).
One thing has and will never change at het Rijk van de Keizer; the atmosphere is relaxed, the possibilities endless..
